Players Signing More Than One Team To Be Handed Heavier Punishment - FAM

MARAN, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will propose more severe punishment to players who sign for more than one team, and to avoid a repeat of the Gary Steven Robbat saga.

Gary, a Harimau Muda A player is involved in a tussle between his home state Kedah, Pahang and Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) since he had signed for both Pahang and JDT.

FAM President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah said the proposal include a one season ban for such players.

"Players must be responsible and respect a contract that they are signing. They should not flip-flop," said Tengku Abdullah who attended Gotong-Royong Diraja programme to repair and clean houses affected by the floods in Maran and Bera, Wednesday.

Tengku Abdullah advised players aspiring to become professional footballers to learn a lesson from Gary's episode.

The controversy surrounding Gary started when he decided to sign for JDT after having signed for Pahang, even before his contract with the FAM had expired.

The FAM later slapped Gary with a three-month suspension and fined him RM50,000 but Pahang were let off with a warning while JDT were fined RM100,000.
